MMD UPDATE + JUNE 18, 2011

Holy Moly here is what's coming soon! I am hard at work and MrMaddensDinner.com is on its way. I will announce as soon as all is up and running!

ALL THOSE  WILLIES + JUNE 14, 2011

After several several requests to see all of the Willie work I have painstakingly posted the pictures that I have and I do very much apologize for the quality of the photographs. I have said it before and I will say it again, I am a terrible photographer. Like disproportionately terrible.

And without further ado here's the work from the 50 Willies:

Willie as Batman & Robin, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie as Ernie & Bert, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie as Cowboy & Indian, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie as Policeman & Fireman, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie as Angel & Devil, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Scuba Willie, 16 x 12 inches; Willie Incognito, 16 x 12 inches

Willie in a Nest, 16 x 12 inches; Willie with Fruit Hat, 17.25 x 9 inches, SOLD

Willie in the Fall, 16 x 12 inches; Wintertime with Willie, 16 x 12 inches

Springtime with Willie, 16 x 12 inches; Summer with Willie, 16 x 12 inches

Willie, King of Hearts, 16 x 12 inches; Willie on Ski Vacation, 16 x 12 inches

Willie in the Shower, 16 x 12 inches; Willie in a Tree, 16 x 12 inches

Dia de Willie, 15.5 x 16 inches, SOLD; Willie Ain't No Bozo, 15.5 x 16 inches

Willie, Master Submariner, 16 x 12 inches; Willie as Superhero, 16 x 12 inches, SOLD

Willie as Pancho & Lefty, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie Fishing, 16 x 12 inches, SOLD; Willie Hunting, 16 x 12 inches

Willie as Songbird, 15.5 x 16 inches, SOLD; Willie on Beach Vacation, 15.5 x 16 inches, SOLD

Willie as Hair Model, 15.5 x 16 inches; Willie as English Professor, 15.5 x 16 inches, SOLD

The next few pieces were created after the 50 Willie party and illustrate that I am always able to work off of old ideas or new ones. In fact I'm always excited for new ideas and welcome any and all Willie work.
The only parameters for the Willies are that Willie can't be in a negative position, like jail, using drugs, etc and he cannot be dressed up as a girl. Everything else is free game
.

Willie as Hippies, 15 x 20 inches

Willie as Batman & Robin II, 15 x 20 inches, SOLD

Willie as Batman & Robin III, 15 x 20 inches

The following are the original five Willies that I made for EAST 2010. Several of these have been re-created and all of the originals are sold and in private collection here in Austin.

Willie in the Sky; Willie Underwater

Willie in the Jungle, Willie on Fire

Willie in a Cave

I HAVE NOW STOPPED FALLING OFF + JUNE 14, 2011

So its true- life went sideways and I am only now beginning to pretend that I am back on track. So much has happened since I last wrote about it-- Seems to me that it was right before Christmas that I fell. So now I have five whole months to catch up on. Let me gather my thoughts and tell you about all of my inappropriate adventures and the work that I made...

flowers out front that have thrived in the heat

I flew off for the holidays to be with my my mother, her husband & his children at their home in South Carolina and had a really fantastic time. I had been to South Carolina once previously and really enjoy the look of it and of course all of the water and seafood, but I was gone for over a week and was of course very happy to be home once again. Also the people there are adorable, so well-mannered. And people have no qualms with wearing pink pants which is always awesome.

January involved me going quite a bit underground and really beginning to plan our wedding. It was preferable to stay under the radar as I had begun to get really crazy people trying to invite themselves to our party and my mother was having terrible visions of the unwashed & uninvited masses showing up.
The invites and all of the other wedding ra ra ra will be posted later in an all-wedding post. It really was a whole helluva an ordeal, but the greatest time for us and I think for our guests too.

The dogs got out of the yard in early January and though we found Mason nearby, Cash Money was turned into Town Lake Animal Center with some terrible injuries to one of his feet. He would have been returned to us sooner, but he unfortunately didn't have a microchip in him at that time (lesson learned).
Both Slade and I feel so grateful that he was basically unharmed and that we are lucky enough to live in such a dog-friendly place. Its also a testament to the power of Craigslist when you have lost a pet.
After some pretty substantial surgery on his foot we had to sedate Cash for several weeks while he wore an enormous cone on his head. Heartbreaking. And expensive. He will now be referred to as Cash $$$$.

February was mostly uneventful and Daniela turned 33 without really ever turning 33. I got drank too much, cried, baked her a cake.

'Body Language 3', 'Tangerine Invitation', 'Dogfight' (all Jennifer Balkan)

At the end of the month I got to trade a huge color study for an awesome masterpiece by my favorite local artist, Jennifer Balkan! Hurrah! Totally worth it! Also traded smaller work for two awesome car paintings. Divine.

Slade turned a year older in March and we also threw a 50 Willie party which could have used a bit more participation, you guys, but was still a success nonetheless. We also went to quite a few Texas baseball games and had some really great tickets behind home plate. I adore baseball. Its just the finest.

I had designed some Save the Dates & invites for my step-father's 60th birthday, which took place the first weekend of April at Seabrook.

Slade and I were in Texas instead and I was hauling across the state to drink some wine with my friend at her ranch-style reception.

And then of course over Easter weekend, Slade and I got married on the indoor stage at Stubb's and then spent a week on a really divine honeymoon. But as I said earlier, there is much to say and much other stuff to say first so I will get back to all of this, but it was awesome. We just loved it. It was a really fun Saturday night.

Slade is good at relax

At some point we realized that the former tenants here at 1906 Anita Drive are the people that run Olivia on South Lamar. The restaurant is about local, sustainable, etc and the chef/owner, James Holmes, was recently in Food & Wine again, so he's kind of a big deal.
Anyway-- the point-- is that we have a garden that was apparently their garden out in the backyard and it has remained unused until NOW!

Slade planted our garden last month and it seems to be off and running. I am super-excited about all of this as I like to eat and personally kill all plants. Cannot wait to eat our own produce. What fun fun fun.

And of course we are all in the middle of exceptional drought here in Austin. It's a serious bummer and way too hot already and it looks like its just going to be miserable for the remainder. Its also thrown a major kink into trying to have a nice green yard, but the grass seed that I carelessly threw around in April has finally sprouted and I am doing my best to encourage it. And by that I mean that I'm trying to remember to water it.

hideous kitchen laminate before/gratuitous dog pics, pink bathroom demolition

We also just had the kitchen and the bathroom floors re-done and its made all of the difference in the world except now I have the overwhelming desire to paint every single wall, neaten up all of the trim, and re-arrange without abandon. Its a sickness.

I continue to believe that I too can be efficient and that I will quit procrastinating so much. There is so much to be done!
